A fantastic weekend at Silverstone sees Rob Collard in 4th in the Championship
A fantastic weekend at Silverstone sees Rob Collard lying 4th overall in the BTCC, only 17 points behind the leader, team mate Sam Tordorff. Rob who began the weekend 31 points behind Sam in fifth place overall, made a rocket start to Race One to move up from 24th on the grid to 15th by the end of the first lap. He continued his progress throughout the race and was rewarded with a seventh-place finish; a result he repeated in Race Two. From second on the grid, he finished third in the final race of the day; his sixth podium of the 2016 season.
Rob Collard said: “We came to Silverstone expecting a tough weekend, both because of the ballast situation and because the layout doesn’t allow us to maximise the strengths of the BMW. But to have three top-10 finishes, end up with a podium and effectively halve the gap to the championship lead is really so much more than I could have expected. I’ve deliberately changed my driving over the last year or two to focus on scoring points rather than taking silly risks and this is the result. We now go to Brands Hatch in two weeks with Sam and I both in contention for the title and from a team point of view, that’s brilliant. We need to work together at Brands and focus on bringing the title to WSR.”
