Mixed Fortunes for Rob at Donington Park

The Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship moved to the legendary Donington Park circuit for the second round of the 2014 season and Rob was looking to secure a positive result after an encouraging start to the season at Brands Hatch.

In Friday’s qualifying, which proved a hard fought and extremely competitive session, Rob set a lap time of 1:10.336 to secure 13th position on the seventh row of the grid. However, he made up for the disappointing qualifying session with a superb opening race performance. Showing pace and overtaking prowess, he fought through the field over the 16 laps to finish in a superb fourth position.

At the start of a wet 19-lap second race Rob made a great start off the line. He made up a position by the end of the first lap and was comfortably running in third until a spin on track forced him out of the race.

An impressive drive from 26th on the grid for the final race of the weekend saw Rob blast his way through the field avoiding any incidents on track to make up an incredible 19 places to cross the line in seventh place. Rob now lies seventh in the championship standings after two rounds.

Rob Collard, eBay Motors For some reason in qualifying the pace wasn't there but we worked hard and had a great first race. I got a good start, the pace was very strong and I was very happy as we gained nine places from where we started. I made a great start in race 2 and was picking my way though the pack until I spun and that ended my race. Racing in the BTCC is always close so you make a split decision, and sometimes it does not go your way, today was one of those. The final race I had to start from the back, so very much in a venerable position. I just focused on the job in hand and took the opportunities as they came and was delighted to end the day in seventh. It was a satisfying result after the disappointment of race 2.”

The next round of the Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship will take place at Thruxton over the bank holiday weekend (3-4th May).
