Ricky Collard clinches excellent Scholarship lead in Formula Ford Debut
Ricky enjoyed a promising opening to his maiden Dunlop MSA Formula Ford Championship of Great Britain season with a dominant win in his first-ever car race.
Brands Hatch, Kent March 2014.
The Falcon Motorsport driver drove superbly to end the first day a clear Scholarship winner, made all the more impressive by finishing fourth overall in his debut race.
A podium in only his second race was another impressive step forward. Third overall, a further Scholarship win and a cheque for £500.00 were the reward for his efforts on track. The third and final race of the weekend didn’t quite go Ricky’s way. An incident on track with a competitor forced Ricky into retirement and out of the race. However, he leaves Brands Hatch leading the Scholarship class and it’s all to play for.
Ricky Collard, Falcon Motorsport “ It’s been really positive. Winning my first race and ending fourth overall is really special. To come back from such a big karting accident seven months ago and get back to full fitness was an achievement, and to follow that up with an overall podium is something really amazing. It will be something I will remember for a long time. The final race did not quite go my way, but these thing’s happen. It’s my first race weekend, and I have taken in so much information. The team has been brilliant, and we are all learning a lot. We are leading the Scholarship class, which is a bonus, but I’m disappointed to have lost out in the final race, which has dropped me down the order in the overall standings. I love this track because of the undulations, but to be honest it’s all still new. Formula Ford is so different to karts, but I feel I have adapted really well to it. I’m enjoying the Eco Boost turbo engines and I love the feel of the car. As a newcomer it has been so important to have the support and belief of a good team and Falcon Motorsport have made me feel at home straight away. To have rapport with everyone within the team gives it the edge. I could not be happier.”
The next round of the Dunlop Formula Ford Championship of Great Britain will take place at Donington Park over the bank holiday weekend (19-20 April).
