Ricky sets his sights on Oulton Park
Four weeks on from collecting his first BRDC British Formula 3 Championship win Ricky Collard will finally return to action at Oulton Park on Saturday 28th May.
While British Touring Car Championship (BTCC) racer dad Rob currently sits at the summit of his class, Collard Jr is starting to make a name for himself in his own right this season.
The 19-year-old has taken to the podium in four of his last six races at Brands Hatch and Rockingham – claiming that elusive first victory at the latter track at the start of the month.
His 78-point haul in Northamptonshire has left Collard 22 points clear at the top of the Formula 3 standings, in just his first year since making the step up from the MSA Formula Championship.
And after putting a difficult first round at the class in Snetterton behind him last month, the Carlin driver admitted that claiming his first win was a “monkey off my back”.
He said: “A lot of people were saying that maybe I didn’t have what it takes to win so it is good to get our first one.
“I think my dad got a little bit emotional and it is a pretty emotional thing to be a British F3 race-winner.
“That trophy at the end of the year would be even nicer though.”
