Rob Collard wins Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship round 21 at Knockhill
Rob Collard was the star of the race in round 21 of the Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship at Knockhill (Sunday 24 Aug) as the eBay Motors driver drove a faultless race under constant pressure to take his first win since 2012 at the same venue - and his first of the 2014 season.
Rob headed to Knockhill knowing that he had a huge challenge ahead of him. A penalty imposed at Snetterton meant that he would have to start the first race from the back of the grid. Aware that he had work to do Rob was undeterred and he made a stellar leap through the field, moving up to 12th place by the end of the 27-lap race.
In the afternoon’s second outing, Rob drove an assured race. From 12th on the grid, he put in another outstanding performance to cross the line in fifth place.
Rob set the seal on his victory with a great start in the final reversed grid race of the weekend. Picking his way through the field from sixth on the grid making light work of the cars ahead of him he was up to second after just a few laps. A faultless move on his team-mate Nick Foster saw Rob take the lead, and he controlled the race superbly to the flag.
The characteristics of Knockhill seem to favour Rob’s driving style, he has amassed an impressive four BTCC victories and won in every formula he has contested around the challenging Scottish circuit.
“That was fantastic,” said Rob. “We’ve shown lots of promise this year, and it’s finally come together for me. As a team we’ve been unstoppable, Colin is driving brilliantly and Nick has been right up there today too, it’s such a pleasure to drive for eBay Motors. I got a cracking start in the last race, and then it was just a case of getting my head down. I love driving on the soft tyres, and the car worked really well on them today. After starting at the back in the first race, it’s just brilliant to be back on the top step.”
