Solid performance for Ricky at Rockingham in Formula Ford
Ricky had another winning weekend in the Formula Ford Championship, securing two further scholarship class wins at Rockingham and consolidating a strong second place in the championship standings.
The momentum from his previous two wins continued with Ricky setting the second fastest class time in Friday practice and then following that up with a solid performance to take a third place overall starting position on the grid for the first race of the weekend.
Ricky powered off the line and was challenging for position as the field streamed into the chicane when contact with Ashley Sutton resulted in a broken nose cone, which halted his progress and pushed him down the order. The reversed-grid second race saw Ricky make another perfect move off the line from pole position. By lap, six Ricky was under pressure from Max Marshall when disaster struck. A gearbox issue saw Ricky get stuck in neutral and he lost position. He finished a fighting fourth overall and took his second scholarship podium of the weekend.
In the final race of the weekend Ricky had exhaust pipe issue which forced him to retire on lap 13 and out of the race.
Said Ricky, “We kept the ball rolling with two further class wins and showed that we have clicked with the car. My performance in qualifying was by far my best result so far this year. Rockingham is a new track for me, but I enjoyed the challenges that it brought. We had some mechanical issues which hampered progress in the final race, and we were not able to finish which was a shame. To win two further races on the trot is brilliant. We’re sitting firmly in second in the scholarship class with two events to go. The Falcon team has done a great job this weekend; we have definitely made improvements. Overall I am pretty happy with the weekend and looking forward to Silverstone in two weeks time.”
